Strangely enough it is possible to earn money from surfing the web. In much the same way that certain websites make money by displaying banner-adverts on their pages, if you are willing to tolerate having a small window on your screen of approximately the same dimensions as these banner-adverts then you can earn money from them.

Basically, after joining one of the many services depending upon your choice, you download a small program which provides the little banner-sized window on your screen in which the adverts appear. Then, whenever you are online and actively surfing the web the banner-window displays adverts and you earn money, the ammount of which depends upon the number of hours you surfed the web for in a given month.

As well as earning money from your own surf-time, you can refer friends and relatives to use the system and earn money from their time too. They in turn can refer others from whom both they and you will also earn money. There are limits such as the 'depth' of referrals from which you can earn money - this is normally about five levels deep but it does vary with each service.

There are many services and schemes that currently pay good money but having tried a quite a few I have found that many suffer certain problems. In some cases this may be because a corporate firewall prevents them from working or because the underlying software or company isn't properly setup yet. The two services I have picked are chosen because I have used them, I am still using them and quite simply, they work well.

This scheme is generally considered to have the best reputation on the web. Part of this is because it was the first such scheme of its kind and so has been around longer but mostly it is because, of all the schemes currently paying, this one has proven to be the most reliable and easy to use.

This is a classic "Get Paid to Surf" scheme whereby after joining up (which is free) you simply download the "ViewBar" which is a small advert-displaying window and from then on whenever you surf the web with the viewbar open you are earning money.

So far, I have found using this service to be incredibly easy and simple to use. I have referred a few other people to this service directly and am pleased to report that I do get credited for for both my own time and theirs exactly as promised. Having read a number of impressive reports on the web about this scheme myself I am happy to say that all were true.

This is a brand new scheme which offers both new and old users alike an opportunity to get paid in a new way. Despite its name, you are not limited to earning money only from surfing the web. This scheme uses a similar type of bar in which display banner-adverts but the nice thing here is that you can be doing anything with your computer - word processing, emailing, whatever. So long as the bar is visible and you are online you are earning money.

In addition to providing the PaidForSurf scheme, the same company also offers free email accounts and has its own search engine. Support for both of these services are built into the advert-display bar which could be useful extras for those who like a tidy and organised life.

I haven't used this programme for quite as long as AllAdvantage simply because it is new but because it allows you to do any computer work rather than just web-surfing I often find it easier to accrue time with this scheme. However, note that both programs (AllAdvantage and PaidforSurf) can be running at the same time so if you happen to be surfing the web then you'll be earning money at effectively double the rate.
